SP Search In Categories is a powerful module to search within a list of categories. It shows a search box associated with a list of categories. The list of categories can be used to restrict the search query or to show a category selection.

It works combined with the Search Plugin+ (Plus) (v2.0 or superior required).

There are three ways to filter the categories:

1. Search Plugin+ (Plus): to globally apply a category list restriction
2. SP Search In Categories, no category selection: to locally apply a category list restriction
3. SP Search In Categories, with category selection: to restrict the search to only one category

How it works: the module submits the query to Joomla general search, with an additional parameter (sid_list, the category list). Search Plugin+ (Plus) gets the parameter, and shows only the matching results. If you want to avoid the classic Joomla Search Form in the results page, the module has a feature to Hide #searchForm.  At the end, you have a module with a search box to search within categories, and keep the user searching in the same categories. If you want to further customize a Category Area, you can define a specific Itemid to fix the area layout.

Installation & Upgrading

Download the last version of the module and install it using the default install procedure of Joomla!.

Required: Joomla! 1.5.x, 1.6.x, 1.7.x, or 2.5.x.
