Yesterday, Joomla! 3.0 has been launched. This is a special new release, it's Mobile Ready, and it has a quantum leap of improvements. For example JQuery is natively supported. 

The current Joomla! 2.5 is a Long Term Support version (3 years / spring 2014). Joomla! 3.0 is not a LTS. It's an intermediate version to be ready for the next LTS version (3.5). In 6 months, Joomla 3.1 will be released, to upgrade Joomla 3.0.

Joomla! 3.0 is mainly oriented for Early Adopters or developers (to prepare the extension for the next LTS).

FAQ - Should I update from 2.5?

In most cases, probably not .... more.

FAQ - I have a 2.5 site and I see a that the Joomla update manager lets me upgrade to 3.0; should I do it since it’s letting me?

Not unless you’re 1000% sure.  By default, Joomla will not let you update to 3.0 unless you activate the option .... more.

FAQ - Is your server ready for Joomla! 3?

It requires PHP 5.3.1 or newer. You can check it with Upgrade Check Application.

To help us in the backend management, we have also integrated the powerful Gantry framework, as platform to build the theme.

Now, we have updated the theme to the latest Bootstrap 2.1.0 (released yesterday), and added several more updates and imprevements.

Quick Install

• To install it, you can just download a zip file from github.com/anibalsanchez/jbootstrap/zipball/master.

• If you are subscriber, you have a Certified Ready-to-Install Bundle or Launcher (which saves a lot of time to master the integration):

• Bundle: Download the bundle, which packages all required plugins, and gantry framework; and just install it with the regular Joomla installer.
• Launcher: Download the launcher (a .jpa file, with an Akeeba backup), which packages the Demo site (a Joomla fully customized with the bundle and Bootstrap Docs site); and restore the backup. Please, follow these instructions to restore the Akeeba backup.

These are exciting times, the whole Joomla ecosystem is updating the plataform to mobile technology.

Responsive design is a the new trend to renew the software. But the renewal but itself is not the objetive. We are rebuilding and improving the general concepts and code quality.

Bootstrap, FontAwesome, and JFontAwesome

We are working to update our Bootstrap Theme, JBootstrap, with new features. Now, we have added support for Font Awesome, the iconic font designed for use with Twitter Bootstrap.

It's already integrated in JBootstrap development github repository; and yesterday we've just published JFontAwesome, a plugin to integrate Font Awesome as a system plugin for Joomla (available now for Joomla 2.5).
